Websites You Completely Forgot You Used To Be Obsessed With As A Teenager

Ah, the early 00s. It was a great time for the internet and a great time for teenagers. Combined, it was a new awakening for many of us. From Bebo to Myspace to Club Penguin, we were obsessed with using websites to communicate long before Facebook and Whatsapp came along. Here's some nostalgic websites you most likely forgot about until now:

Myspace

Myspace was a ~place for friends~ but really it was a place for enemies because anyone who wasn't in your Top 8 was considered dead to you. It had a short reign, with its peak from 2005 to 2009 at which time it died a horrible, fiery death.

Fun fact: In June 2006, more people visited Myspace than Google! How times have changed.

Bebo

Forget Myspace: Bebo was where it was at for teens in the UK and Ireland in the early-mid 00s, with over 1 million Irish users. You could make a profile with a personalised skin, give love to other people, and draw on the whiteboard - it was amazing. Sadly, Bebo's popularity took a dive after Facebook came on the scene.

Fun fact: Bebo is no longer a social media network, but a social app company???

Neopets

Was there anything more fun than getting trophies, painting your pets and generally being a terrible pet owner? It taught us how to take care of our shit, from trading stocks to earning cash to gambling. Kids these days have no idea what they're missing out on, or do they? Actually, Neopets is still around and going strong!

Fun fact: Neopets was created by a British student from the University of Nottingham in 1997.

MSN Messenger

Don't get me started on MSN Messenger. While this wasn't ~technically~ a website, it was an institution. Who could forget nudges, emoticons, display pics and MSN names? Well, clearly none of us remembered and its last incarnation, Windows Live Messenger, shut down in 2014.

Fun fact: MSN stands for Microsoft Network. Not even fun.

Habbo Hotel

Give kids the opportunity to make an avatar of themselves and put them in a virtual world with strangers. What could go wrong? Everything... and it was amazing.

Fun fact: Despite it seeming like a breeding ground for child predators, Habbo Hotel is actually quite safe. In fact Habbo's moderation and safety systems were classified as one of the safest social networks in a 2011 European Commission report.

Miniclip

Hours.of.fun. If you didn't go on Miniclip as a pre-teen or teen, you either lived in Cavan and had no internet, or you weren't allowed. This games website was filled with games like Monster Truck and Golf Ace and life was good.

Fun fact: Miniclip is the world's largest privately owned online gaming website. Vegas baby.

Stardoll

Dressing up celebrities has never been more fun than when we played Stardoll. You could make Mary-Kate or Ashley look completely emo and the biggest problem was finding matching shoes. Stardoll never died and is still as popular as ever.

Fun fact: Creator Liisa Wrang was a 57-year-old Finnish retired housekeeper when she created the site in 2004 as a place for little girls to get away from killing games boys played.

Club Penguin

Club Penguin was set up back in 2005 by Disney as an online virtual world for young people where you could buy clothes, furniture and puffles for your penguins. Sure, we may have grown out of it, but we still remember it DON'T WE?

Fun fact: People were more than a little upset when Club Penguin closed down earlier this year
