People Are Reeling After Last Night's Louis Theroux Documentary

Louis Theroux is a bit like our collective 'cool' uncle. He may be absent most of the time, but we can be sure that, at least for a few days each year he will drop into our lives, regaling us with astounding and, as time goes on and his worldly disposition becomes slightly bleaker, ever more harrowing stories of the human condition. Last night he returned to our screens with the first of his new series 'Dark States'.

The series is set to chronicle three of the biggest issues blighting American society; opiate abuse, human trafficking and homicide. Last night's episode dealt with the massive heroin epidemic that has gripped the country, due large;y to an over-prescription of opioid pain medication in the past two decades. It was unsurprisingly, in a show where Louis Theroux spends time in a sort of fabric shanty town erected on the banks of a river while watching people inject heroin into themselves, utterly bleak.

Considering that Louis admitted in an interview with The Guardian last week that he had essentially only made the shows to fulfil a contractual obligation to the BBC that he have a minimum annual output of three shows, it was still a brilliant piece of television. I don't hesitate in saying that it was one of the most interesting and best things to have come out of a sentence involving the phrase 'contractual obligation'. As such we've gathered together some of the best Tweets reacting to the show.
