The world fell in love with Stranger Things when it premiered on Netflix back in 2016.
The '80s nostalgia fest is throwback gold - viewers were transported back to a time when phones were attached to walls, cassette tapes were contemporary and teenage boys (or maybe just Steve) did four puffs of the Farrah Fawcett spray when their hair was damp.
As well as getting a glimpse into Mr. Harrington's hair routine, we were introduced to other mainstays like Nancy and Jonathan, not forgetting #JusticeforBarb (S1) and aggressive bad boy Billy (S2).
Take out the supernatural element though and we're watching teenagers as they grapple with the struggles of becoming young adults, deal with relationship problems and struggle to make sense of who they are. 'You shouldn't like things because people tell you you're supposed to,' (Jonathan Byers, 1984). This is much like the kids in The Breakfast Club.
The movie on Netflix is lauded as one of the best teen flicks of the 1980s. It focusses on five stereotypical students as they're thrown into Saturday detention and still resonates to this day. The teens discover that they have more in common than they think - they feel the same peer pressures, are at odds with their family and struggle with the labels that high school has given them.

No matter what era you grew up in, if you've ever been a teenager you'll identify with The Breakfast Club on some level and we're rooting for a Nancy, Steve, Jonathan and Billy similar style detention scene in Stranger Things Season 3. If that's not happening than we'd settle for a reference in the form of Simple Minds' Don't You Forget About Me.
