The sassy blonde detective is coming back to our screens and we're 100% here for it. Kirsten Bell announced that the show would be making its long-awaited return in 2019, after a five-year hiatus.
While it's not clear if we're getting more than one season, the new season will air on the Hulu streaming site alongside the first three seasons. The actress made the announcement on Instagram with a cute video referring to fans as "marshmallows", a popular term of endearment used by Mars during the show.
The last time we saw Veronica Mars was in the 2014 movie ending which ended with Veronica taking over her father's private investigation business. The new series which will focus on a serial killer killing spring breakers in Neptune, Veronica's hometown, in order to ruin its reputation as a tourist town.
The show creator Rob Thomas is promising that while the movie might of being nostalgic, Veronica Mars 2.0 will be a gritty tale set over eight episodes.
I will say this: the movie was nostalgic. The Hulu limited series isn't going to be. Hardcore So-Cal noir. One big case. Eight episodes to tell the story. This is a detective show.

Like THE THOUSAND DOLLAR TAN LINE, the mini-series will be set against a Spring Break backdrop, but TDTL is NOT the story we're telling. We're five years after the movie. Books are 98% canon. Pony is included. Marcia Langdon is police chief. Spoiler: Neptune finally incorporated.

Both Bell and Thomas are passionate about the Veronica Mars franchise. In 2012 the pair raised five million on Kickstarter to fund the Veronica Mars movie. With the backing of a streaming service like Hulu, we cannot wait to see what they'll do with this new series.
