5 Artists Who Should Release An Autobiography

It's the Christmas Season and comedians who appear on the Graham Norton Show are frollicking about with their latest slapstick book, thrown together with a co-writer or ghost writer (ooo) mere weeks before. Autobiographies are a common feature in the comedians' canon but musical artists seem to offer their accounts less, perhaps because they are ashamed of what they have done or perhaps because they find it hard to put a decent lyric to paper to begin with (will.i.am). But in a time when the masses are vying for the stories of people like Cheryl Cole, surely there are grounds too for the release of these potential autobiographies:

Noel Gallagher- What A Life

He's controversial, he's outspoken and he's witty. An interview with Noel Gallagher is a journalist's dream come true because he has an opinion on everything, from Victoria Beckham to politics. A recount of the glory days of Oasis and the biggest party in Britain since the '60s would be an essential read for any music fan but that's only the beginning. What about his rivalry and later reconciliation with Damon Albarn? The explosive split-up of Oasis? What are his real opinions on Liam Gallagher and Beady Eye? There's ample ground to explore here and Gallagher would surely do it with a sense of humour even few comedians manage to achieve.

Elton John- I'm Still Standing

Sir Elton John is a fascinating figure in pop and rock music. He's collaborated with many greats, he's struck friendships with odd combinations from Take That to Eminem and he's produced some of the most notable hits of our time. In many respects, he's explained all the big controversies of his life (drugs, bullemia, etc.) in interviews, but an ordered perspective would be intriguing to run by too. Seemingly humble, honest and frank but also highly outspoken in the industry and partially removed from reality, this account would be a difficult one to relate to, but fascinating nonetheless.

Paul McCartney- This Long and Winding Road

There's been numerous biographies and studies of the Beatles' and Paul's lives but a full-500+ page autobiography by the man himself, concerning his early days, the Beatles, Wings and his solo career would be a worthwhile project. Often, journalists and writers have picked up on how he shies away from the controveries or sore subjects of his life (won't find Heather Mills being mentioned in many interview post-divorce), so this would give him a chance to lay it all out on the table. He could set the record straight on what John was like, address the negative image he garnered for many years in relation to his solo works and allow him to evaluate his career as a whole.

Kanye West- I Am A God

This could also just be a collection of his rants, organsied by subject, from his relationship with Kim K. to being snubbed by the Grammies. He's said a whole lot but more often than not, these projections of "wisdom" come across as ramblings, so a bit of order and clarity would be useful. Presumably, there would be a good few volumes to this autobiography because he is a "genius" and he's done more in his 36 years than the rest of us could fathom in our lives.

Miley Cyrus- My Wrecking Ball-Point Pen & Growing Up In Buck-Tooth Tennessee

The lizard-tongued princess of pop has a lot of explaining to do and a book might gain her a tiny bit of credibility, so long as it is not co-authored by father/ The Spy Next Door star Billy Ray Cyrus. This would serve as the sequel to 2009's Miles To Go.

Well, those are 5 of our top picks for autobiographies. Naturally, we would also enjoy accounts by Jay-Z, David Bowie and a host of other artists too but for now, these will do. So let's make Christmas 2014 one filled with unrequested books in the stockings!
