So we're going to go out on a limb and presume no one reading this article was actually around in the 50's. Everything we know of the decade was brought to us via the silver screen. Films have told us that it was a period of fun, fads, and fashion; an era when people really started to get their groove on. They've allowed us a glimpse into what really was the best decade ever. Vertigo (1958)
One of Hitchcock's finest films, and often considered one of the best of all time, Vertigo is a tale of romantic obsession brought to life by James Stewart and Kim Novak. Retired policeman John Ferguson suffers from severe acrophobia and becomes deeply enthralled with his friend's wife, leading to a sequence of dire events. A dark tale that draws the audience in, Vertigo showcases the cool, harsh reality of the fifties on screen.
War Of The Worlds (1953)
War of the Worlds delivers on the thrill and paranoia of H.G. Wells' classic novel. Although not an overly pleasant film by any stretch of the imagination, the film showed us the fear of the great unknown, the paranoia and how far we've all really advanced over the years. Because now, of course, we'd all be so much more equipped for an alien invasion....

Some Like It Hot (1959)
Think of the 50's and what blonde haired bombshell instantly springs to mind? I'm guessing you thought Marilyn Monroe, am I right? Some Like It Hot embodied everything that was sensual and fabulous about the 50's, from the curvy pin-ups to the swaying beats of the incredible music. This fantasy-drama-comedy explores the loss of innocence in America in the fifties and more importantly, it touches on the role of women in this time.
