Students all over Ireland celebrated and commiserated their Leaving Cert results last week and had to wait another grueling five days to find out the results of their CAO. For those of you living under a rock, the CAO is the application system that allows students to apply for their college courses in order of preference.
As you can imagine, the CAO Twitter reaction was a mixed bag this year as the new points system saw a reduction in the number of points required for popular courses. Points for courses in teaching and nursing have dropped whereas business courses continue to rise, with over 20% of students applying for business courses.
Some Twitter users reacted with pure and utter joy as they were offered the course of their "dreams" and others were delighted they didn't have to find accommodation in Dublin:
Can't believe I just accepted Veterinary Medicine at UCD!! Dream course ? #CAO2017 #leavingcert

Stress is still a big factor for students when finding out their CAO and many people have been questioning whether or not it's all worth it:
Think i've had more mental breakdowns this week between results and CAO then I ever did in the whole of 6th year

If you didn't get the Leaving Cert results or CAO offer you wanted, it doesn't matter. You're still a good person. People still love you.

On a serious note though, if the CAO/LC results have caused you any stress/anxiety, there is someone there to help-

The wait for the cao offers is so stressful, it's like waiting for the results all over again, such a poorly organised heap of shite

One student is thrilled to be the first person going to college in her family:
Being the first person in your family to go to college & having everyone so proud of you makes every 6th year melt down so worthwhile

Congratulations to everyone who got what the results they wanted and for everyone still in limbo, try not to worry. Everything will work out in the end - whether you choose to believe it or not. Remember this, hundreds of thousands of successful people never got their first choice on the CAO and they turned out just fine.
