The Laugh-Out-Loud Differences Between Christmas In Ireland vs America

America is known to go over the top for every holiday.

They put up Christmas decorations the day after Halloween, spend hours and crazy money with their Christmas lights, and just generally make us look bad. If you've seen our Halloween post, you'll know that Americans out-do us most of the time.

We've decided to pinpoint exactly how much they out-do us in every way possible.

1. The Christmas tree

Americans trek out into the wilderness, chop down their tree by hand, place it in the corner of their 10 foot living room and decorate it to a tee. In Ireland however, we trek up no further than the attic and pop up the artificial tree bought from Argos seven years ago.

2. Christmas cards

Americans love to send annual lavish Christmas cards with professional photo included. Irish people however, send crap cards to your three neighbours, not even signed.

3. Christmas lights

Perhaps the most stark difference of all. Americans go to incredible lengths to have the best Christmas lights for miles around. (quite literally) Sure could you imagine their electricity bill?

4. Christmas vs the holidays

In America, with their huge Jewish population they have deemed the merry season 'the holidays' as the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah falls close to this time. Good old Catholic Ireland however, it's just Christmas and always will be.

5. Christmas drinks

Americans are mad for their eggnog and pumpkin pie, they are both absolutely vile and should be in the bin or better yet, never be invented. Eggs do not belong in a drink they're only allowed to be in a fry – period.

6. Christmas dinner

Americans eat goose for dinner which is all fine and well but in Ireland we eat delicious, juicy ham and it tops goose any day.

7. Finally; Christmas jumpers

Christmas jumpers have become a major fad in Ireland, mainly for the 12 pubs of Christmas. In America however, they constantly out do us with their light up jumpers that make ours look like shite.
