Denial & Questioning Everything: Signs Adult Life Isn't For You

Once upon a not so long ago, you relied on your teachers to tell you to study, your parents to make you study and you had to ask if you could go to the toilet. You didn't have a care or responsibility in the world. All you had to do was make it through your final exams with good enough grades. Now there's no structure in your life, you have to decide what profession you want to commit to for the rest of your life, and you have to be responsible too? Stop the world, stop the presses...Here are some signs that adult life isn't for you:

You Question Everything You Do

Ew. What is this paperwork? Your Mom can't fill it out for you now, you're an adult. You have to try and fill it out yourself, what's a PPS number? You start to doubt yourself, "is this my address?", "what's my date of birth?" you ask your Mom all these questions and she ends up getting so annoyed at you that she just fills it out herself. Applying for a job means you have to make a CV, but you don't trust yourself so you end up going to the nearest adult and asking their opinion.

You Can't Do Important Things

It was okay for your Mom to make an appointment for the Doctor when you were under 18, but now you just look like a fucking idiot. You're an adult now and you've never done it before and you're so unprepared. And it looks ridiculous when you're bloody 19 and you're still dragging your Mom into the doctors office so he can ask what's wrong and you turn to your Mom for her to answer. No one warned you of this. When a number you don't know calls your phone, you still get the hot flash making your heart race, you should be able to handle this but alas, it's just not meant to be. They should have taught you this shit in school.

You don't have a job. You're cruising through college living off the few bob your parents throw you every once in a while and it seems like all your fellow adults have a mortgage and three kids already. You still struggle to answer when someone asks you what you're doing with your life because it reminds you of all the things you should be able to handle and therefore, it triggers a panic attack. Oh dear.

You Just Can't Accept The Fact That You're An Adult Now

You've done it at least 20 times by now. You look around for an adult in a situation, but you realise that, oh fuck, you're the adult. Panicked, you continue to look around frantically for someone, anyone, a responsible adult, a more adult-ier adult. You still live with your Mom and Dad, they'll still make you dinner if you need to. You've had the same Barbie wallpaper since you were 5 and you just can't handle the responsibility of getting up every morning and getting to your lecture on time.

Being an adult is never what you expect it to be, for anyone involved. And there's a shitload you just have to learn along the way, so stay strong fellow Adulthood Panickers, it will get easier-ish, eventually. Probably. Maybe....
