The draw for the Beauchamps Leinster Schools Senior and Junior Cups were made this last night, with several interesting pairings in the first rounds of both competitions. Leinster players Isaac Boss, Ian Madigan and Martin Moore were on hand to make the draw, alongside representatives from the Leinster branch and new tournament sponsors, Beauchamps Solicitors.
In the Senior draw, holders Blackrock College will begin their quest for a 68th crown against CBC Monkstown. Last year's beaten finalists St Michael's College start off with a tough assignment against 10-time winners Terenure College, while back-to-back winners in 2010 and 2011, Clongowes Wood College SJ, take on Kilkenny College. Two schools who have made deep runs in the competition in recent times and finished in the top two of this year's Senior Schools League Section A, Newbridge College and Cistercian College Roscrea, will also lock horns. Another 10-time winner, Belvedere College SJ, take on Wesley College. Martin Moore's alma mater, Castleknock College take on St.Andrew's. Meanwhile, the two qualifiers from the Vinnie Murray Cup will play The King's Hospital and St Mary's College respectively.
In the Junior draw, champions Blackrock will also take on CBC Monkstown, while last year's beaten finalists Belvedere will do battle with Gonzaga College SJ. 10-time winners Terenure play Kilkenny College, while Clongowes face a tough examination from Presentation College Bray. In the other match-ups, Castleknock College face off against Newbridge and St Michael's face St Mary's in a mouth-watering clash. Again, two qualifiers (from the Fr. Godfrey Cup) will make it into the first round proper and they will face St.Gerard's and C.U.S respectively.
The times and dates of all first round matches will be announced later on this week.
