I've always said, never trust a person that doesn't like dogs. Man's (and woman's) best friend are loyal, affectionate and would pine beside you if you died, a cat would be more likely to eat your face. A video emerged of President Michael D. Higgins cuddling a dog and Twitter is in meltdown. The two Bernese Mountain dogs which are almost the size of the President himself are named Bród and Síoda. Perfect Irish names for dogs that reside in Áras an Uachtaráin.
Dear god.
My heart just exploded.
The only real President in the country today. ♥ pic.twitter.com/UMVPaUEwHx

Bród and Síoda are no strangers to the internet and are by the President's side for all major events. They even have their own online unofficial Twitter page:
Here they are meeting Harry and Meghan:

We believe some people have “meetings” today. Your meetings are a lot less fun than ours. We get to meet princesses... but we are sure your meetings will be useful too. pic.twitter.com/wKClMx32dp

They even appeared in Peter Casey's campaign video. In the bizarre video, Casey took aim at the dogs from their German heritage:
