The Weekend Wager - Horse Racing

Looking forward to this weekend's action, we have heavy ground everywhere again. It's so wet in fact, that we may see horses running, not with tongue ties and blinkers but more with snorkels and goggles. Ah they'll have a laugh regardless....

4 selections this week so there is the option of a lucky 15 for all you eager beavers out there.

Saturday - 3.35pm - Ascot

Keeping with the aquatic theme, the first horse I am putting up this week is trained by the Shark Hanlon. Hidden Cyclone has a lot to find on the front two in the market but has conditions to suit and ran a cracker behind Beneficent at Christmas. He certainly needs to improve again but at 4/1, I feel he is worth a punt. If he does come in, I suspect that Shark and the gang may "need a bigger boat" to bring the cash home with them. I'm sorry.

Saturday - 3.15pm - Haydock

There are plenty with chances and even Lionel Hutz could make a case for Katenko, Sydney Paget and Merry King but the one I am plumping for is Night Alliance. He won the Tommy Whittle chase by an easy 11 lengths over 3m here last time out. He is up another 13lb for that but has a nice racing weight and is getting 18lbs from Katenko in conditions that suit. Good value at 8/1 in my eyes!

Saturday -12.20pm - Haydock.

The selection here is Ugly Bug. This is as tough, as genuine, a horse as you are likely to find. Watch his run from Chepstow over Christmas and if you disagree with me, I will be forced to challenge you to a duel. He takes a slight drop in class today and should be able to take a race of this nature with conditions to suit.

Saturday -2.40pm - Haydock

The favourite is worth taking on here with one of the best novices from last year, Melodic Rendezvous. Injury ruled him out of the Supreme Novices last year when 2nd favourite, and he made a good comeback in November. He was well beaten in the fighting fifth but it emerged afterwards that he had pulled muscles that day. At 9/4, he can have us singing in the rain this weekend!
