An 18-year-old man has been confirmed dead after being knocked down by a car outside Athlone IT. The incident took place on the Old Dublin Road near the college at around 9:20am this morning.
The pedestrian was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore following the incident but was pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of the car was uninjured in the collusion.
The Gardaí are investigating the accident and the road remains closed to allow an investigation of the scene of the accident.
