Calls For More CCTV In Ireland After Young Woman Allegedly Raped In Dublin Yesterday

There's been some awful news come to light this morning: Gardai are investigating an alleged rape in Dublin at about 2am yesterday, reports Independent.ie.

A young woman in her early 20s alleges she left a Dame Street nightclub with a man in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and was attacked shortly after.

The woman was taken to a Sexual Assault Treatment Unit where she was examined before being released. Our hearts break for her.

While gardai have not yet identified alleged rapist, they are confident CCTV coverage in the area will help identify the man.

But not all areas of the country's nightclub and bar areas have the same level of video surveillance, leading to calls for greater CCTV coverage.

Thankfully, the Herald revealed that more CCTV cameras are set to be introduced on Dublin's most popular party streets, after a review by gardai of coverage in Dublin's south inner city at the end of last year found a huge need for CCTV. With that said, there still needs to be more CCTV rolled out across the country.

Additional cameras will be installed on Harcourt Street, Camden Street and Montague Street.

We hope justice is served for this young woman.
