Twitter was sent in a frenzy after Britney Spears was announced dead on Sony's Twitter account.
The tweet claimed that the singer had passed away in an accident, but it was later revealed that the account was hacked. The tweet read, 'Britney Spears is dead by accident, we will tell you more soon'. This was followed by a tweet reading, 'RIP Britney'.

The hacker group OurMine have claimed responsibility for the tweets and have previously hacked Netflix and Buzzfeed – to name a few.

Sony publicly stated, 'apologises to Britney Spears and her fans for any confusion' over the matter.
