It's a struggle to find somewhere to rent nevermind be a first-time buyer. It looks like it's about to become even more difficult for young people to buy a home but counties with the lowest housing prices might make the difference.A new Irish housing report by Daft.ie has revealed that house prices are increasing for first-time buyers.
Here are the top counties with the lowest housing prices:
- Leitrim
- Longford
- Roscommon
- Sligo
- Donegal
- Mayo
At the lowest, a house in Leitrim is averaged at around €124,000. Longford's average price is €129,000 and Roscommon comes in at €130,000. Sligo is €134,000 after which Donegal and Mayo rise to above €145,000.
Unsurprisingly, the most expensive house prices are in South and North Dublin and Wicklow. Houses prices in South County Dublin are over €550,000 on average. Galway is the second most expensive city to buy a house outside of Dublin.
According to the Daft.ie report, house prices are rising more than €2,000 every single month on average. The average price of a house is €240,000 which is 11.7% higher than at this stage last year. In just three months house prices have risen by 4.3% across the country.

Trinity College economist and the Daft report writer, Ronan Lyons, states that we need to build 50,000 houses annually in order to meet the demand.
