Scroll through your newsfeed on Facebook and it won't be too long before you see a story about homelessness in Ireland.
Just yesterday (Dec 6), a woman who had been homeless for the past three years, was found dead in a doorway in Cork city. A similar story just last week - two men who were rough sleepers died in Dublin.
It's a cliché to say the homeless crisis in Ireland is severe but just to put it into context, figures from the night of November 7 revealed 184 people were sleeping rough on the streets of Dublin. That's the highest on record since the count began in 2007 and double the number during winter 2016.
And while a snap of cold weather may be inconvenient for some of us, for homeless people it could be seriously harmful, or in some cases fatal. That's why when businesses do something to help, we like to highlight it and drive home how great their show of support is.
In the run up to Christmas, Homeyard at The Eatyard are joining forces with the Dublin Simon Community, one of Ireland's most prominent, homeless charities. They're holding a food and living accessories drive and are hoping to collect as much goods as they can by the 15th of December.
