There is nothing more annoying than getting home from a trip to find you have a huge bill for data roaming. Sure, some mobile phone providers have deals where you get data or calls but you still have to pay for roaming charges, which can end up costing you hundreds. Thankfully, that's all about to change: from June 15, EU data roaming changes in Ireland come into play and you will be able to use your plan like you're at home.
Here's what Three and Vodafone are offering for customers from June 15:

- Customers can now use their plans in the same way as they do at home
- Once you exceed your allowances you are charged out of bundle rates

UK, Isle of Man, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, Northern Ireland, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Vatican City.

Prepay
- ‘Roam like at home’ experience already available now
- Customers can now use their plans in the same way as they do at home
- You still will receive the advice of charge messaging and be able to control your data spend while roaming regardless of the destination

When you arrive at your destination, Three will send you an SMS that will detail the maximum rates applicable for Calls made, Calls received, SMS sent and Data per MB.
Three customers will have an automatic €50 (excluding VAT) i.e. €61.50 (including VAT) limit on data usage while roaming, but Three customers can change this limit at any time by contacting Three Customer Care.

Vodafone
As a Vodafone mobile customer you will be able to use your home allowance of data, calls and texts at no extra cost.
It’s also free to receive calls and texts from home when you are travelling in Europe, helping you stay connected with friends and family.
Bill Pay and Prepaid
- Data allowance: home allowance
- Calls and texts to Vodafone Ireland number while abroad: home allowance of Vodafone calls and texts
- Calls and texts to Ireland or EU numbers: home allowance of calls and texts to any network
- Receiving calls from Ireland or EU: Free
- Calls to EU numbers in EU (i.e. in Spain calling France): home allowance of calls and texts to any network
- Any out-of-bundle calls, texts or data usage: charged as per your home out-of-bundle rates.

Note: Calls made from Ireland to Europe & the rest of the World will continue to be charged for your international allowance (if applicable) or standard international rates.

Tesco Mobile, Eir and Meteor have yet to release information about charges after June 2017, but we will keep you updated.
