The Icelandic president pineapple pizza debate has torn the world into two equal slices (sorry). The president of Iceland has sparked an international debate claiming he would outlaw pineapple on pizza altogether. Last week President Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson was visiting a secondary school in the north of the country when he made the comment that he was 'fundamentally opposed' to the topping.
Of course, when a public figure makes such a brash, ground-breaking comment the Twitter-verse goes into a frenzy;
President Jóhannesson, your ideas on a pineapple pizza ban are wrong, short sighted and ill advised. #pineappleonPizza #letmypizzafree

Iceland's president is glad he doesn't have the power to ban pineapple on pizza and I am glad of that as well. #pineappleonpizza

Although many people have been frankly tortured over the statement, the President clarified the issue in a Facebook post. He stated,
'I like pineapples, just not on pizza. I do not have the power to make laws which forbid people to put pineapples on their pizza. I am glad that I do not hold such power. Presidents should not have unlimited power. I would not want to hold this position if I could pass laws forbidding that which I don´t like. I would not want to live in such a country. For pizzas, I recommend seafood.'
Well, thank God for that.
