The amount of international students studying in Irish universities is well and truly on the up.
According to the Higher Education Authority, 23,127 foreign students studied in publicly-funded colleges in the last academic year which is a substantial increase from the 19,679 two years earlier. In light of Brexit, more and more international students are set to study in Ireland over the coming years, when apart from Malta, Ireland will be the only English-speaking country in the EU.
Data from 2016-2017 also revealed that the majority of international students come from the USA (4,696), followed by China (2,153) and Saudi Arabia (1,396).
In all, foreign students account for over 10% of those studying at third-level - as well as universities, this includes IT and teacher training colleges.
Ireland is renowned for its excellent standards at third-level and many students. 38% of honours bachelor degree holders and 63% of postgraduates were employed over here nine months after graduation.
Earlier this year, The Irish Times reported that there was an 11% increase in language students studying over here. 2016 saw 119,000 students learned English in Ireland, up by 11,871 from the previous year.
