When many people come to Ireland, they're shocked at how expensive alcohol is compared to other EU countries, especially for a country that is known for um... alcohol. But it's really no surprise for citizens who have been paying the price, literally, for years. And a new survey proves just how expensive Ireland is, not just for buying alcohol, but non-alcoholic drinks, food and tobacco too.
The data by Eurostat focused on price levels for food, beverages and tobacco in 38 European countries and essentially showed that Europe is a mindfuck when it comes to pricing. Take Denmark for example: the prices for food and non-alcoholic drinks in Denmark were 45% above the EU average, while in Poland they were 37% below the EU average. BRB moving to Poland.
Sadly, Ireland gets the crown for the highest cost of alcohol in the EU and the UK is the most expensive for tobacco.
