We knew it...
If your one of the many men wandering around this morning with a runny nose and feeling unapologetically sorry for yourself then you should know you're not alone.
According to scientists, who wrote an article for the British Medical Journal, the infamous man flu is a real thing and dismissing it as a joke is "potentially unjust".
Dr. Kyle Sue of the University of Newfoundland found that men who experienced seasonal influenza had a higher risk of hospital admission. The data came from Hong Kong and spawned from 2004-10.
If it wasn't bad enough the study suggests that an "immunity gap" exists and that the "studies of influenza vaccination suggest that women are more responsive to vaccination than men" signaling that men have weaker immune systems than women.
Men may not be exaggerating symptoms but have weaker immune responses to viral respiratory viruses, leading to greater morbidity and mortality than seen in women.

It's not all bad news. According to Sue men are more likely to take risks when it comes to their health. Men are more likely to smoke and less likely to seek medical intervention when they are sick.
New year, new you lads!
