Six years ago University College Dublin's running track was ripped up. The college has been on a waiting list for funding for a new track ever since but that's all about to change.
Now an anonymous donor has guaranteed that the running track will finally be completed. The track is expected to cost €3 million but it's unclear how much the donation will cover.
The new track won't be situated at the end of Belfield campus but beside the Sports and Recreation area of the campus near the Clonskeagh entrance and beside the Olympic size swimming pool.
Work is due to get underway on the €1.6m design which will include a long jump and hammer cage. The philanthropic donation will also mean there is money left over to maintain the track for the next twenty years.
