Bravo to UCD's Cumann Gaelach for such an amazing feat. The UCD students Gaelbreak saw participants make it from Dublin to Waterford completely through Irish. Four students made it to the final destination of Coláiste Na Rinne Gaeltacht, with the other 16 making it to some part of Waterford.
Students had to make it down to the Gaeltacht with no money whatsoever, relying on the kindness of strangers to make it to their final destination. The point of the whole competition was to prove that you can make it around Ireland using your píosa focal.
Participants made it down by hitching lifts off Gardaí, getting buses and thumbing down cars. The students found that even if the drivers couldn't understand Irish they were able to understand and respond in English. It seemed the experiment was a great success in the end, with the two winners Sean Mac Dhonnagáin and Donagh Ruane arriving down at 5.30pm on Saturday.
Maith thú, lads.
