In Ireland, we are so fortunate to have so many fantastic destinations for weekend breaks right on our doorstep. With Ryanair expanding routes and frequent sales it's never been easier or more affordable to hop on a plane to make a new city your home for the weekend.
Copenhagen embodies effortlessly stylish and cool, from the trendy locals to the contemporary bars and restaurants, the Danish capital has everything you could want from a city break. It will cost you though, that's the only downside.
Here are five reasons you and your friends need to visit Copenhagen:
Nyhavn
Nyhavn is Copenhagen's 17th-century waterfront. It is lined with brightly coloured townhouses with bars, cafes and restaurants. Head straight to Nyhavn on Day One for a city boat tour to find your bearings so you can easily navigate around the beautiful city. If you are travelling in the colder months, Nyhavn is also a great spot to stop for a boozy hot chocolate to warm the soul. It is also the place for the mandatory Instagram where you gaze unexpectantly out at the water, while you have prompted your friend to take the "caught in the moment" picture.

Reffen Food Market
Just 15 minutes walk from Nyhavn, Reffen is Copenhagen's newest food market and urban area for start-ups, innovation and creativity. Reffen replaces the highly successful Paper Island food market which closed down in 2017 due to temporary leasing. The outdoor food market closed for the Winter months but reopens next week 29th March.
Freetown Christiania
If you have ever wondered what a suburb taken over by hippies would look like, Freetown Christiania has your answer. Christiana nestled by a lake is a popular tourist attraction with colourful graffiti building and relaxed vibe. Weed is illegal in Denmark, however, Christiania is the go to spot for those who like to partake. Christiania is also the cheapest place you will buy food and drink in Copenhagen. Make sure you go there hungry, the food is stoner portion sizes.

Drinks In Copenhagens Meatpacking District
For a night out in Copenhagen, the meatpacking district described as the "mecca for young hipsters" has everything you could need and all within close proximity. For food Mother has hands down the best pizzas or if you would prefer the unlikely but delicious combo of Dim Sum and Cocktails go to Magasasa. If you're beer drinker War Pigs has an on-site brewery. There's also a range of bars and clubs where you can dance the night away, if you're looking for chart tunes, however, this is not the place to go.

The Brunch
And finally, leaving the best to last, Brunch. I consider myself to be quite the brunching specialist at this point and Copenhagen has without a doubt the best brunch experience. What makes it the best brunch is, yes it's delicious, but also you get a little bit of everything on the plate. Ideal for when you're hungover, and want everything.
