Eminem at Slane- Highlights

If you were not one of the 80,000+ who attended Slane yesterday, then you most likely do not know what the score with Eminem's gig was. Indeed, it was built to be one of the big headlines of all time, partially thanks to the lacklustre decision to also have Bon Jovi headline this year and partially because you just don't see the Real Slim Shady gigging that much. In fact, Jay-Z even went as far as to say he was an "infamous non-tourer" once but despite that and despite having cancelled Slane once before, Eminem came and delivered!

The man with several names, commanded the stage with a presence that few artists can truly manage. He follows in a string of great acts that Henry MountCharles has enlisted to headline, including Oasis (2009), The Rolling Stones (2007) and U2 (2001). He took to the stage a bit after 9pm (the crowd having heard Slaughterhouse and Plan B beforehand) with a full band in toe; female backing singers and the lot. Wearing a hoodie, he rapped through his familiar back catalogue of hits, such as "The Way I Am," "Like Toy Soldiers," "Stan" and more, making it a memorable gig for all in attendance.

On a rather downbeat note however, there were over 700 guardaí in attendance to make sure things ran well, after the fatalities at last year's Phoenix Park gigs. They checked for alcohol, drugs and weapons thoroughly, including the VIP section and made sure things ran smoothly. There is still of course more news to emerge on the full day, but for now, enjoy a slice of vintage Eminem:
