Organised Flashmob at JACK

It seems like House music has really taken hold in our fair capital over the past two years with everybody clamouring for a throbbing bassline and a sprinkle of driving percussion. Dublin has been consistently supplied with a plethora of deep house, disco and house acts to quench the thirst of even the most demanding of clubbers and Flashmob were undoubtedly one of the most impressive amongst them, their performance at Lost Society last year still the talk of the town.

The duo made up of Alessandro Magani and Danny Minchella sprung onto the radar for the majority of house lovers with their track Need In Me. However the track (by far their best known) almost never saw the light of day. The duo had constant doubts about whether to release it and whether it suited their sound but in the end the decision was made to approach British tastemakers Defected. A decision that turned out to be pivotal for the two Italians. Months later it was the biggest selling track on label for 2012 and it also enjoyed the gong of Essential New Tune from the tunemaster 5 million Mr Pete Tong

Since then the duo have gone from strength to strength. Their next record ‘Hot’ also enjoyed massive success last winter while recent release Pieces also on Defected cemented their reputation as an innovative duo not afraid to take risks with their productions. The record introduces acid house elements alongside the driving energy always present in their tunes.

Joining them on Friday night are Canadian up and comers Prince Club, an act we have long looked forward to seeing on Irish shores. With a host of energetic house tracks the duo have catapulted themselves to the forefront of the underground scene this year. Initial gems like Love Strong and The Block signaled their potential and the adventurous duo have since secured releases on heavyweights Toolroom and Defected. Their remix of Miguel Migs track Heartbeat achieving particular notoriety.

The two acts combined provide the kind of high quality lineup that has been missing in recent times in Dublin. Following a sellout show with Fritz Kalkbrenner just last week, this is the second of two very exciting dates for new night JACK (based in The Button Factory) which is offering up the acts at a breakneck pace. Future arrivals include Infinity Ink (minus Flo-Rida before you ask), Gesaffelstein (one of the biggest French posers around but a man with latent talent) and MK (a show that sold out in just three hours on Monday!) so it’s good to know fine house will continue into the winter season.
