Just for the fun of it, the College Times Music team have decided to produce a weekly feature where we roll back the years and take a look at what was happening in the industry on any given month of any given year, bringing you a selection of facts and videos that may even come in handy at the next local pub quiz. In this edition we take a look at the month of August in 1975.
The future of legendary rock group Led Zeppelin was thrown into serious doubt when the band's lead vocalist and main lyricist Robert Plant was involved in a serious road collision while travelling with his wife. After almost taking the Stairway to Heaven, the group was forced to consider their future while Plant recovered.
Peter Gabriel, lead vocalist of the band Genesis quits, being replaced by drummer Phil Collins. That worked out well for Phil.
The first ever Rock Music Awards were held as a strictly rock event to compete with the Grammys. Unfortunately it was given the chop after just three years. To be fair, when you take into consideration that Elton John was one of the first artist to receive an RMA you can kind of understand why. Not exactly a hard core rocker is Sir Elton. The event was hosted by John and Diana Ross.
Aerosmith release one of their best known tracks "Walk This Way" from their album Toys in the Attic charting in the Billboard Top 10

Bruce Springsteen releases his breakthrough album Born to Run to critical and commercial success.
The musical comedy horror flick The Rocky Horror Picture Show is released in the UK for its world premiere. It became a cult classic and audiences were known to dress up and participate throughout the film. The musical is still being shown in theatres four decades later, making it the longest running theatrical release in history.
Papa John Creach quits rock pop group Jefferson Starship after just one year becoming another in a long line of members to pass through the groups ever changing line up.
Eric Clapton releases his album E.C. Was Here featuring a cover version of the blues track "Further on up the Road" which would later become a fan favourite.
The Ramones made their first appearance at the infamous CBGB club in New York which was known for staging performances by punk and new wave rock bands.
The Grateful Dead performed at the Great American Music Hall.
