T in the Park 2013

For those of you who didn't know, another one of those  summer festivals occurred this past weekend- the UK's T in the Park. Set over Saturday and Sunday, attendants had the chance to see the likes of Foals, Beady Eye, Dizzee Rascal, Miles Kane, Snoop Dogg, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more. The headliners included the ever mischevious Rihanna and the Killers on the Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Rihanna performed 20 tracks spanning her eight year long career. "Diamonds" was of course the closer, the first single from her last album and played against the background of a firework-filled sky, drew great attention to the pop star. Highlights also included the ever popular "Umbrella," "S&M" and "What's My Name"- which dominated the latter half of the set after the first half was relatively low key ("Pour It Up," "Birthday Cake," etc.) Of course, Rihanna's performances are never simply noted for their sets and online sources have been quick to point out that her usual raunchy routines were this time performed in a tiger-print play suit. So there's that...

The Killers meanwhile, no stranger to endless UK festivals, performed their usual set with a pang of burden no doubt that their last LP failed to produce a hit. "When You Were Young" and "Mr Brightside" were thus left to the end and as always pleased the crowd, as modern anthems, in their own right. They also covered the song "Side" by Travis (remember "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?")- an interesting choice which added a bit of flavour to the usual repetition of a tour setlist. Other highlights were of course the tracks we love and "Read My Mind," "Somebody Told Me" and "Smile Like You Mean It" were all on there, to bring the festival to a close last night.
